Under the direction of newly hired Theatre Director, Willie Teacher, whose credits range from theatre to television to the silver screen, HSA ’s Theatre Department, utilizes a traditional arts conservatory approach to prepare students for the demands of professional application, as well as provide a general understanding and appreciation for theatre. The Theatre Department refines and focuses the talent, commitment, and enthusiasm of children and teens ages 4-18 in a fun nurturing environment, providing its students with a foundation to express, expand and explore their imagination.
Our more advanced HSA Prep Theatre students marry theory with practice by
engaging
in a number of performance opportunities, including fully staged productions,
auditions,
and community events. Students and alumni of the department have been cast
as
principals in Broadway’s The Lion King and American Idiot, as well
as popular television
shows, films and commercials. Graduates of the department are prepared to
go on to
attend leading theatre programs at top universities. The department is led
by worldrenowned
teaching artists, who are also actors, directors, singers, performing artists
and
poets–all currently active in their respective fields of performance.
