Dance Courses for Children and Teens

Ballet
Beginning with a simplified approach to the classical structure of barre exercises, center work, adagio, allegro and grand allegro, students will gradually progress to more complex combinations of these elements.

*Ballet IB, II, IIA and III must be taken twice per week to help build the technical skills needed to advance to the next level; all female students, Level II and above, will take Pointe the last half-hour of class.

Dance
Designed to encourage and develop the natural inclination of each child to move and create, these beginning classes serve as an introduction to both Ballet and Modern.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester

For Ages 4–6
Class Times: Saturday 9:00am–10:00am & Tuesday 4:30pm–5:30pm

• Dance IA
For Ages 7–8
Class Time: Saturday 10:00am–11:00am

Jazz
These classes are designed to introduce the dancer to the fundamentals of this stylized popular dance form.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester

• Jazz IB
For Ages 7–10

Modern
Modern dance technique provides the student with a vast primary contemporary movement vocabulary.

• Children's Dance Ensemble (CDE)
CDE was designed to provide students (ages 7–12) who display early talent and strong interest in dance the opportunity to study intensively, work on an ongoing repertory and perform on a more frequent basis. Auditions are held annually and all current members of the ensemble re-audition each year.

Tuition: $490 for 14 weeks / $980 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester
Audition Dates: Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, 4:30pm–6:30pm
and Saturday, June 1, 2008, 9:00am–12:00pm

• Renaissance II
Renaissance II is HSA’s College Prep dance company. It offers students the chance to study dance intensively in a professional atmosphere. The company performs and tours on a regular basis.

Tuition: $490 for 14 weeks / $980 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester
Audition Dates: Wednesday, October 3, 2007, 5:00pm–8:00pm
and Saturday, June 1, 2008, 12:00pm–3:00pm

Tap
These tap classes will investigate seven basic “taps” and a variety of steps including the shuffle, shim-sham, gallops, brandy twist, corkscrew and simple time step.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester

• Tap I
Ages 4–7: Saturday 11:00am–12:00pm
Ages 6–10: Thursday 4:30pm–5:30pm

•Tap IA
Ages 8–11: Saturday 12:00pm–1:00pm
(If younger, must have taken Tap I or be recommended by instructor)

• Tap IB
Ages 11+: Saturday 1:00pm–2:00pm
(Requires prior training)

• Tap II
Ages 10+: Thursday 5:30pm–6:30 pm

• Tap III/Ensemble
Ages 10+: Thursday 6:30pm–7:30pm
(Students must have prior experience or be recommended by instructor.)

Boys' Tap
These tap classes were created specifically for boys. Each student must be registered in another HSA class to be considered for scholarships, which will be determined by instructor audition during first day of class.

• Advanced Boys’ Tap Class
Tuition: $320 for 14 weeks / $640 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester
Class Time: Saturday 5:00pm–6:30pm

• Girls' Beginner/Intermediate Tap
This class focuses on rhythmic tap dancing and shows how this discipline is not just a dance but an instrument as well. Students will explore rhythm, tempo, creative expression and various styles of movement. Audition required.

Tuition: $320 for 14 weeks / $640 for 28 weeks
Ages: 14 –20
Costume Fee: $60 per semester
Class Time: Saturday 3:30pm–5:00pm

Ethnic Dance
Experience a variety of movement styles from Africa.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester for each parent and child in Ethnic I

This is a parent/student class. Parents attend for free!
Ages 4–6: Saturday 10:00am–11:00am

Hip Hop
Want to be a music video star? Learn the latest dances and stay fit in this fun, high energy hip-hop dance class! The class will incorporate street dance styles, stretching and body strengthening techniques, great music, and exciting hip-hop choreography. Learn about style and how to have confidence with freestyle dance techniques. Anyone can do it!

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester for each parent and child in Ethnic I

• Hip Hop I
Ages 7–11: Saturday 12:00pm–1:00pm

• Hip Hop II
Ages 12-15: Saturday 1:00pm–2:00pm

• Hip Hop III

Traditional West African Dance
This class will focus on the traditional West African dances of Senegal and Guinea and is offered to students ages 7 and older.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Costume Fee: $60 per semester

For Ages 10+: Saturday 3:00pm–4:00pm

• West African IA
Ages 10+: Wednesday 5:30pm–6:30pm

• West African II

Adult Dance Courses

• Tap for Adults
This course incorporates technique, warm-up, combinations, rhythm, terminology and history, culminating in individual and group choreography ready for performance. Beginner to advanced students are welcome. Minimum enrollment required.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Ages: Adult
Costume Fee: $60 per semester
Class Time: Thursday 6:30pm–7:30pm

• Pilates
Developed in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, the Pilates Method is an exercise system focused on flexibility and strength, allowing the body to attain symmetry. Pilates is a series of controlled movements engaging both mind and body and promoting spinal flexibility. The more flexible the spine, the more youthful the body remains. Minimum enrollment required.

Tuition: $230 for 14 weeks / $460 for 28 weeks
Ages: Adult
Costume Fee: $60 per semester
Class Time: Monday 7:30pm–8:30pm
