DANCE REGISTRATION & PLACEMENT
Please Read Before Registering for Dance Classes!

Classes for students ages 2-6 are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All students ages 7-17 who are interested in ballet or modern must take a dance placement class or be assessed during the first two weeks of the semester to
determine their appropriate levels. If a student joins the school mid-semester, he or she will be assigned classes to take as placement classes and then be placed accordingly. All returning students must be assessed and placed in the
appropriate class based on their ability.

  1. CLICK HERE to Register Online, view our class schedule and course catalog. Select your first choice of dance classes by age and interest. Classes are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  2. All new modern and ballet students must take a ballet Placement Class. Continue to check this page for schedule updates.

  3. For all other dance techniques no placement necessary. Simply complete registration and attend first day of scheduled class.

Aubrey Lynch II — Dance Department Director, former dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and original cast member and Associate Producer of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Disney’s The Lion King, has taught at many dance institutions including Steps on Broadway and The Ailey School. He co-designs and co-leads workshops and programs for Theater Development Fund, mentors for YoungArts Week, and coaches young children for film, television, and Broadway. Mr. Lynch is a firm believer that “Art is not extracurricular. It is extra-essential.”

Under his leadership, HSA’s Dance Department has enhanced its curriculum with a new partnership with American Ballet Theater, hired faculty whose esteemed credits include The Ailey School, The Joffrey School, and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Students have been invited to perform on many stages including a “knock-out” performance according to the NY Times at the Apollo Theater for the 2011 Bessie Awards.

Our dance programs seek to nurture talent while strengthening the students’ relationship to their inner self, their fellow students, and their community. Through rigorous dance training, respect, and teamwork a child can aspire to become a professional dancer or simply enjoy dance as an outlet for self-expression. We provide students with discipline, hope, and purpose, stressing the importance of punctuality, performance, and etiquette. With these skills, our students and their families show by example what it means to strive for excellence and achieve their unlimited and unique potential.
