College Prep Tutoring Program

Do You Love the Arts?
Do You Want to Make a Difference in a Child's Life?

HSA’s College Prep program is open to students ages 12-18 and currently operates in the Dance, Music and Visual Arts departments. The College Prep program prepares students in the technical and/or performance skills necessary to compete for post-secondary study and career development.

Help students at The Harlem School of the Arts with their academic studies, a part of HSA’s College Prep Program.

Although HSA’s curriculum focuses on the arts, we believe in helping students succeed by supporting their academic success, as well. Some of our students are currently experiencing difficulty in English, Essay Writing, History, Latin, Math and Science, and PSAT or SAT Prep. We are seeking tutors in these areas who share our commitment to helping prepare children and young adults for the future.

Tutors will receive 15% off group classes and 10% off private lessons in any of HSA’s four disciplines.

College Prep students must maintain a B average in their academic courses, and HSA faculty complete quarterly evaluations to measure students' artistic growth, class participation, attendance, behavior and academic performance.

Nine of our 30 College Prep students have specifically requested help in the following subjects:

  • 3 students requested PSAT or SAT Prep tutoring
  • 6 students requested Math tutoring
  • 5 students requested Essay Writing tutoring
  • 5 students requested Science tutoring
  • 1 student requested English tutoring
  • 1 student requested Latin tutoring

Of the nine students, two students are in the eighth grade, three students are in the ninth grade, two students are in the tenth grade and two students are in the eleventh grade.

Students and their families are required to sign a promise of commitment to their academic tutoring. Likewise, we require potential tutors to submit an application and a commitment promise form. Please download both of these below:

• HSA Tutor Application Form

• HSA Tutor Commitment Contract
