Curriculum
The College Prep Music track was designed for students with talent and a commitment to excellence. The curriculum is designed to train and prepare select students for entry into an institution of higher learning and/or a professional career in music. Every applicant for the College Prep Music program must audition in person before members of the faculty. Call-back
auditions include a parent/student interview, allowing parents to meet with administrators and faculty. All students must audition annually after acceptance into the program.
College Prep Music tuition: $1,040/28 weeks plus registration fee and other applicable fees.
The College Prep Music curriculum integrates private lessons, ensemble participation and music theory/ear training. History, keyboard skills, technique and improvisation workshops are added during the summer session. All music theory class assignments are based on placement exam scores or successful completion of the last course assigned to a student. Students who have completed Music Theory IV or been selected by the faculty for demonstrating extraordinary compositional skill will be assigned the Composer’s Workshop. Students in College Prep will be required to commit to a minimum of 2 to 3 days of classes or private lessons weekly during the regular school year. Performance days are additional. Piano students will be assigned to a combo or chamber ensemble.
A jury examination is scheduled at the end of the Fall semester. All students must successfully perform technical and reading exercises for faculty members’ approval. All jury requirements will be announced and taught during the Fall semester.
